The Toyota Matrix was designed in 1999 for the 2003 model year debut. It was developed as a joint venture with GM(Pontiac Vibe) and was produced from 2003-2008. This model was designed originally in California and completed for production in TMC headquarters in Toyota City, Japan.
I was the lead designer on the Matrix development. I followed the car from California to Japan where the final development took place.

Concept, Theme, & Early Sketches
The concept of this project create a vehicle with the dynamics and fun of a sports car without sacrificing utility.
The theme of the Matrix is "Stretched Flaring". Performance flares are stretched from the front of the vehicle to the rear giving it a very performance look. The roofline has a utilitarian centerline contrasted with a sports DLO shape.
